Inspired by a photograph in December of 1977 of my father and I on Mattituck, Long Island... just before my father left me and my mother for a different life in Texas and I was far more interested (in this memory) in looking into the line on the horizon. This image is iconic for me because I have absolutely no memory of this moment, other than the photograph. But it made me think of the many complicated relationships between fathers and sons all over the world. This is the first of several more Father/Son paintings to come.

"A few years back I was walking across the street, toward a music venue and out of the corner of my eye I saw a pay phone where the phone was left hanging. I imagined someone made a call and there was no answer on the other end of the line. The caller was broken hearted and too broken to hang up so he just dropped the phone and started walking into oblivion, never to be heard from again. Yes, all this went through my mind in a flash of a second as I slipped into the venue and played a gig for the guy who walked away."
